Hey Guys,

 

I've always been a fan of the Original Bill Lewis Rattle Trap and did well with Rapala Rattlin Rapala.

Starting amp up for some heavy spring bass fishing.

 

Tell me what is your favorite/most productive lipless crankbait, color, size, and best time of year tossing it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bill Lewis 1/2 OZ Rattle Trap, chrome blue back, anywhere, any time of year.  

Lucky Craft LV500 through the winter and pre-spawn. Close second is the Jackall TN 50/60/70.

Ghost minnow is tough to beat, but there are also times they really like red (Delta/spring craw) or something with a little more flash like American shad. Great baits... just stings when you lose one!

I found some old pics of a rattling version.

 

They are RARE indeed!

I probably don't throw them as often as I should, but my box is mostly Rattletraps and Red Eye Shad with a few Rapala Rattlin Raps mixed in.

I fish really shallow and I need lift.  The rat L trap does much better with a straight horizontal retrieve where the goal is deflection (IMHO).

 

I do much better with the bill lewis hammer trap and the strike king red eye shad , which both lift up into the water and almost hover for a second before they shimmy down slowly due to the lift created by their design.

 

I caught nearly every fish this winter on a red eye shad including a 9.3 and multiple 5-6 lbers.

 

I often like using the 3/8 oz to show the fish something a little different from every other guy at the lake or pond.

Most of the time I use a lipless bait its put in deeper water and hopping it off the bottom . The Red Eye Shad is what I use and it gets big bites.

I like the original Rattletrap in chrome. 1/2 oz.

Kinami has been out of business for years.

 

My top traps- lv500, Jackal TN 70, and Yozuri 3d vibe.

I have dozens and dozens of lipless cranks from 1/4oz-3/4oz and every weight in between, from many different brands. Tried them at alot of different lakes, ponds, and rivers and didnt catch anything with them. Then last spring i figured it try it again and bought some Berkley Warpigs because i got them really cheap on a sale and they had some cool colors. I caught my PB bass week after week fishing these. Before last year my PB was 3 pounds (im in PA so thats probably the average bass size) but last year i got several 4lb, 6lb, 8lb, and a 10lb bass when nothing else worked (i tried other cranks, spinnerbaits, jackhammers etc) but only this lure worked on the lake i was fishing. I consider this lure a magical bait for me. It just has such a different vibration in the water and casts a mile. Weird thing is that i bought way over a dozen of them, 3 different sizes and many different colors, but i can only get the fish to bite on 2 colors.... brown craw and ghost red craw 1/2oz.

I was working on my prespawn box last night and filled it up with Strike King, Bill Lewis, and Spro lipless cranks as well so maybe this year ill get a fish to bite on them as well.

Have a bunch of Bill Lewis Rattle-Traps, but have not thrown them in a while. I really need to break them out again! 

 

Looking back through old fishing logs...I have achieved good success running them down rip-rap early in the morning. When fish hit the trap...they HIT it!

 

Even caught a Musky on a chrome-blue 1/2 oz. trap back in the day. 

Currently,  LC LV500 but it use to be the Xcalibur One Knocker. Great bait.

3/4 oz is all I throw.

It's thin, casts like a missle, gets deep fast and it's easy to keep it there.

You may be on to something.  I was going to pick up a couple at the Spring Classic @ 25% off.  BPS is sold out completely.  In stote and online.  Must be pretty good...
