What are your Favorite Westerns?

I have a lot , but some my Favorites are:

The Outlaw Josey Wales, Lonesome Dove, The Searchers, Open Range, El Dorado, Dances with Wolves, the Sacketts, Quigley down under. Good , the bad, and the ugly. Hell on Wheels…

What are yours ? 🤠

My top pick is the 1960 The Magnificent Seven. Just a perfect western (based on another movie that I like, Seven Samurai). Outstanding cast and I love the stories about how the cast interacted (or didn't). In no particular order I also love The Outlaw Josey Wales, Big Jake, Tombstone, and Unforgiven. There isn't a single redeeming character in the movie Unforgiven. It's a bunch of bad people doing bad things and yet we find ourselves rooting for some of them. I never pass up either version of 3:10 to Yuma or either version of True Grit. This last one is always listed as a "western" though it's not a traditional western, Hell or High Water.

Easy answer for this old dog anything with Clint Eastwood in it.

Probably my age speaking here but I'm going new school: No country for old men and Hell or high water.

I grew up on Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. Still love them. Some of the westerns from the 90s and early 00s are great too. Tombstone, Young guns and The Unforgiven. Also for any fans of westerns might I suggest watching "Hell on wheels" It's a show based on the railroad expansion across the west and it is SOOOOOO good.

I’m a John Wayne fan myself, but I love most all that have been mentioned. Probably Lonesome Dove is my favorite. Geronimo, Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee. Gettysburg, God and Generals stuff like that..

Back when we had cable, two movies I always stopped on while surfing were Rio Bravo and Sierra Madre. I tried re-watchting a couple Sergio/Clint movies a few years ago and found I no longer have the patience for that pacing.

Silverado was a cool movie. Hatfields & McCoys with Costner is excellent. His latest creation is good but incomplete & I’m not sure if he intends to finish it. Horizon: An American Saga is the name of it.

Big Jake and Tombstone are my two favorites

There are very few I don’t like, they are all my favorites. My wife not so much. Most of the spaghetti westerns are pretty lame, most, not all.

Didn’t even think about No Country for Old Men. Outstanding movie.

Tombstone, Unforgiven and Josey Wales. I like TV series too. Lonesome Dove, Broken Trail ,The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, Kung Fu and Bonanza. I dont know if I like Bone Tomahawk or not. That was a weird one.

Sackett movies with Sam Elliott and Tom Selleck, then Eastwood movies

The Good, the Bad , and the Ugly was like that. It was top shelf, but yhey should have cut some of the unnecessary dialogue, esp. the part before they blow up the bridge.

My wife is like that too. She got us “ Once upon a time in the west” to watch , and neither one of us liked it. It had high ratings but I can honestly say it’s the worst western I’ve ever seen.

She hasn’t tried to find us a western since lol.
