What are your favorite BFS baits?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

What are your favorite BFS baits to use? I am making a list for my next tackle warehouse order. Some things I have liked so far is a finesse jig in 1/8 or 1/16 ounce, the micro bladed jig, and a mini square bill. IMG_8806.PNG

Gotta grab a karashi. The whopper plopper 60 is good, but it blows out unless it’s a super slow retrieve (in my experience). Frogs, buzz baits, spinner baits, pretty much anything else. My next purchase is going to be a few of the bait sanity bfs gill glides…

Finesse jigs, 2.5" tubes, jig worms, karashi, neds, and jighead minnows do most of my work. But there's some small spoons, jigpara micro, kastmaster, little jack micro addict, and the bayruf seek 68s that are a blast for the open water schoolies I get post shad spawn, most are in the 2-7g range but even some of the heavier ones have such tiny hooks that BFS is much more appropriate. I definitely wanna play with pitching a micro d-bomb more this year, picked up some ryugi infini hobbit size 3 to give me a chance.

Unlike most it seems, I’ve come to use bfs primarily to fish soft plastics. Mostly ned rigs and flick shake, but occasionally neko rig, swimbaits, and floating worm too. Favorites are trd’s, swamp crawlers, shad shape worms, plus a myriad of finesse worms from 4-7 inches.

Z - Man Flashback CB and a TRD Micro on a 1/0 EWG with a 1/16 bullet weight are two of my favorites.

I do the opposite. I fish mostly hard lures with my BFS equipment. I like the Shimano BT bait, the spybaits from Jackall and the Karashi also.

I just picked up a BFS trick shad at academy. Gonna fish it tomorrow morning…

I fish gin clear water so Flickshake, Drop-shot, Ned are always tied on and are responsible for the majority of yearly catches.

Unfortunately for my wallet, all of the Megabass options are good. Karashi, X-80, X-70, Griffon and everything in between...working on putting together another order as we speak. Gotta trim it down a bit.

2.5 mayor on a 1/16 #2 6th sense crappie head.

Karashi.

Not a huge surprise they suck to cast if you have any head wind. I also think the sink rate is a little too quick and nose heavy but should be an easy fix with slightly smaller hooks/split rings.

The baitsanity gill out of the pack has a very nice low float, almost suspending action on 6lb fluoro. with the 2 tungsten weights applied just ahead and behind the front hook hanger it's a very slow sink, perfectly horizontal and sits upright on the hook on bottom.

Agreed, the baitsanity gill is pretty solid and pricewise it's about the same. Definitely worth the few extra bucks.

Side note, do you do much with the adhesive weights that come with the baitsanity stuff? Found anything that's a "must"???

The Karashi appears to be #1 with us BFS guys, I also put a lot of time in with a Gunfish.

Yeah, I waited too long to buy the baitsanity gill glide… hopefully a restock will happen soon…

Megabass Karashi, Evergreen Piccolo PC-5, Megabass Pop-x BFS, Bassday Mononofu 50s, and the Megabass X-Nanahan. There are probably several other hard baits but these are usually at the top of my list.

For soft plastic.... Raid Egu Dama Level and a Devil Shaker, OSP Bug baits, anything from Great Lakes Finesse, and small 2-3in swimbaits on a jig head.

I only own the full size explorer gill in the floating model so the weights are definitely a must for tuning down to slow sink or suspend. But you can do the same with lead wire or upsized hardware.

I really like the OSP Tiny Blitz crank baits... the medium runner (6 feet) and deep runner (10 feet). Not only are they fun to fish, but the hooks aren't so tiny like so many BFS treble lures - they keep the fish pinned much better than most.

I was surprised to see this!! I thought I was the only one who LOVES these things!

I think what most don't realize about this specific bait is it's essentially an automatic strolling bait. It's rocks and flashes baits incredibly. When you look at the head design, it's very much a ball design like a strolling head...though not quite as round. No matter, the blade does the rest and rocks it beautifully with no effort on your part. Just reel.

These paired with an OSP Mylar Minnow or other strolling/rolling bait is extremely effective.

I favor the 1/8th size with a 3" Raid Fish Roller.

I mean...look at it!!

The flashback mini chatterbaits are good for sure.

What specific mini craws or cranks do you use?

I’ll look into those thank you

Just starting to fit BFS into my fishing time. The following: 1/16 and 1/8 oz. Rooster Tails, Panther Martin and Mepps 1/16 oz and 1/8 oz. 1/9 oz and Beetle Spin 1/16oz. Rebel Craw 1/10 oz and Crick Hopper 3/32 oz. Rebel creature baits kit. Micro T-Rigs. Every bite matters.

Good Fishing

Karashi hands down. And itty bitty plastics.

I use spinning gear to throw these but for small BFS sized lures/baits I have had success with many of the same ones @FishTank uses -- in addition to the following:

-Jackall Dera Break - it's a mini chatter bait - killer with a Nories Switch-On Trailer or DEPS Deathadder

-Megabass - BFS Griffon

-RAID - Libero Head Swimmer (in the 5g or 7g size)

Not specifically into BFS but the fish on my local river are small. Thursday evening tournaments are all crystal clear water and small bags. Because of this I fish a lot of Ned craws and small minnows or worms. Started to make some finesse football jigs that looks like they are for panfish. Also working on some 3/8oz downsized spinnerbaits.

Allen

Let not forget the Jackall Micro Pompadour and Gan Craft Claw 70.

Go with what you know I guess. I mostly fish a Ned on mine.

Although I have been having a pretty good time tossing a Beetle Spin on it lately. It feels line a new twist on an old school style of fishing. Reminds me of fishing them on a Zebco 33 in ponds for whatever bites, just on a much nicer rod and reel than a Zebco.
