Could she tell if it was a Barred, Screech, Horned, whatever?

First glance, it looks like a Screech...but I'm not 100% on that.

Not sure - this pic was taken with a Canon Rebel 7  with 75-300mm lens, pretty low light and a good distance away.

Last winter we had a Great Horned Owl here for a few weeks but never could get a pic as we'd only see it at night.  This bird seems a bit smaller and doesn't have the 'horns'.

The give away is always the agitated group of cawing crows.

They seem to come from near and far to harass the owls for hours.

Pretty sure the crows have good reason, as the Great Horned Owl is their most dangerous predator.

fun ride and significant because that’s 7 month old hazel riding with her daddy in the red canoe. Her first boat ride!!! (She already has 2 life jackets to choose from)

Had a couple passengers on the boat today, I think they really enjoyed their ride along.

  • After a couple of years of being used to make the new movie "TOP GUN-2" this F-18 E  has just arrived @ our facility in Jacksonville Fl. for rework, fresh paint and being returned to the active fleet.

Past two weeks or so, there's been 'evidence' that the local rabbit population was being dined on.

But there hasn't been any footprints so we had to think it was an aerial attack.

My wife may have confirmed it when she took the dogs out this morning.

We usually see one or two of these a winter and certainly appreciate

them helping to keep the varmint kong population in check.

Nice. I got to see a Red Tail Hawk take out a cottontail last fall. It was pretty impressive. Head shot with the right talon. Instant death, that bunny never even twitched. The hawk had to work pretty hard to get airborne, but it managed to fly off with it.

It looks like a Barred Owl. Screech and Great Horned owls have ‘horns’ we’ll call them. This guy looks like he’s missing those.

Yup ~

Lynn got a few better shots this morning, confirms it.

I sometimes hear these guys hooting when I launch my boat before the sun is up. Very spooky sounds they make. Unmistakable. I hear them right outside the camp a lot as well in the evenings.

If you've ever heard them snag a rabbit in the dead of night - it's wicked bad.

Rabbit screams and it sounds like someone is skinning a baby !

I like it either way.

Have you been going on the roof to clear snow again?

I have not cleared the roof.

But if I never look up at it,

it's good to go.

It'll let you know if too much snow accumulates. Kinda like "should I retie that knot".

Baked chicken in the oven and Cosmo refuses to leave the vicinity for nearly 2 hours, just staring at it.  As if it's going to fly out into her mouth. :mini-bird:

That was Bruno when we were roasting a turkey. He'd be nose-on to the oven the whole time.

One of my builds I’m doing now is in Coast Guard city USA. Virtual meetings most of the day today meant I parked my butt on the frozen shores of Lake Michigan. You can’t tell by the picture but the iceberg filled water was rolling today.
