Anytime I catch a fish from the back of the boat he gets angry

Sounds like me fishing with my Dad when I was a kid.

I'll echo what others have said.  Run from that guy.   Start saving money for your own boat/kayak, canoe or something.

Tell him man to man why you will not fish with him anymore.

To have a friend be a friend. The bad behavior is manifesting for a reason and you are not the only person experiencing his tantrums.

Check around for local bass clubs willing to have experienced non-boaters.

I fished with a guy for several years. The first 5 were great. The next two were kind of weird in that he would get quiet when I caught fish and quit asking me to go. The last year we fished he was an out and out jerk. I told him to take a hike one night and never looked back. He has asked me repeatedly to fish tournaments and I have declined.

That 6 + month span made me fish mostly by myself or with my wife. I have invited my son-in-law on several occasions but his wife, my step daughter, gets upset so I don't bother anymore.

Cut that guy loose. It's not worth the stress nor the hassle.

I’d say jump in my boat anytime but you’re out there in gods country 😂

if you ever make it to the big city let’s go fishin

I love it when my buddies catch big ones out the back of the boat, I usually land them.

You have two choices:

Walk away and say nothing except "No Thanks" when he asks you go.

Walk away, confront him gently, and tell him why.

I’ll go ahead and add a third option here.

Ignore him. Radio silence works for me when I want someone to leave me alone or I want them out of my life.

😂 I don’t make it to the big city very often. Times I’ve fished near there was Douglas and Cherokee

This dude right here spreads the love better than anybody else I've seen on here, and his buddies often catch bigger fish than him 🤣

I can try those sometime, I’ve done some damage on Cherokee in winter and up the river on Douglas in hot summer with a Louisiana style alligator boat

I hope he doesn't find this board...

I hope he does.

In fact, we should send it to him.

Be the best thing that ever happened to him.

I had an identical situation. Get along with the guy perfectly, but he's like fishing with a 2yo. God forbid you catch more fish than him, he'll destroy the entire outing with his pouting and silent treatment. I haven't fished with him in 3 years and I don't miss it one bit. Brian.

That is not normal behavior.  That’s not friendship.  I respect your tolerance but that’s abuse plain and simple.  Move on.

I like this method. A direct approach leaves little doubt and handles things most expediently for both parties. Usually when I take this kind of direct approach, people become startled. Often I can calm them down by remaining calm and polite.

Last weekend things were better. This weekend they got way worse. Almost lost my pb smallie a few months back asking for the net and he just stared at me. So I boat flipped it. He then proceeded to smash his rod on the side of the deck.

Life is way too short. Ghost this nutjob.

I hate to say it, but Facebook groups are pretty amazing at connecting people.

I just picked up my brother from JFK after he spent the past few days in Texas. He met up with a group of dudes from SU on Facebook. They came from Texas, Arkansas, Cali, and wherever. He made a point of saying not one of them was an azzhat. All were cool. He had a blast even though the catching was bad because a cold front dropped down on the very small 25-acre lake they were at. He's going back next year.

It's not about fixing him. It's about being upfront with people. No more phone notifications for you and no more wondering for him.

This particular DB disqualified himself from that level of courtesy, IMO.

The first time, I would have given him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he had a bad day. The second time, I would have deleted him from my life without a word. What a fool.

You could do like I do with my 10 year old grandson. Even with my best efforts, he just can’t catch many bass so when I hook one I hand him my rod to reel in and release, It’s close enough to make him happy, so maybe treat your buddy like a 10 year old.

The closest thing I’ve had to that is a friend of my son. He is an excellent inshore fisherman, to the point that he is as good as any guide in the area.

The last time we went, we were catching plenty of fish, but here’s the problem. He is very quiet until…

he starts talking about his sexual escapades. He goes into great detail about how he was cheating with a married woman ( He’s married too). He also fires up a joint continually throughout the day, which bothers me…

whatever you do is your business, but I don’t want to hear about it, or experience it .

I would walk away from that guy, if anything for your own safety and peace of mind. With your kind of attitude, you’ll no doubt find a few trusted friends you can wet a line with…
