At this point arguing over Daiwa or Shimano is like fighting over which twin sister is hotter.

I currently own Diawa Baitcasters, but if someone wants to send me some top of the line Shimano reels to compare with my Diawa, I would be glad to give them a try.  I can tell in advance, that if I were given a Shimano reel to review for free, the Shimano reel would be the smoothest, farthest casting reel I ever owned.

I agree. I have many of both and they're both great. Also have some 13 Fishing and Lew's. No Urkel's, I mean Abu's, tho.

Coke / Pepsi, Bud / Miller, Ford / Chevy. You get the picture

I will add, when I was looking for a BFS reel…..after being a long time Shimano user, I thought I wanted the Daiwa but when feeling it in hand vs the Curado BFS, the Curado just felt like the better machine. I even handed them both to my wife….who knows nothing about fishing and I asked her to reel and press the button and tell me which one felt like the better machine, she chose the Curado.  So did the guy selling me the reel even when the Curado was cheaper.

I refer you back to my first sentence. ;)

Kinda, but i don't see why its wrong to mention their strengths and weaknesses, and compare the two.

So without ever even trying one, Shimano is automatically smoother and furthest casting of any of your Daiwas. And i am the one trolling here lol. This is the kind of posts i see on reddit all the time, tho, so nothing new.

If you're saying that this was sarcasm, implying that this is what i've done when comparing the two brands, then that's nothing but stupidity. Just at this moment, i own two 2015 met dc's, 2 met mg dc, aldebaran mgl and have ordered the new met dc 3-4 days ago, which still hasn't arrived. I actually compare the higher end between the two brands instead of sticking to one, and blindly defend it because ShIMaNo Iz BeTTeR.

I still think that went over your head, Bud. 😅

The hyper drive gears daiwas are smoother than anything Shimano has but that doesn't mean that they are better reels because of this.  And yes they are smoother.  We had this autistic thread on TT where a Shimano guy went to quantify exactly how smooth his new Daiwa Zillions were compared to his Metaniums and took readings with an accelerometer strapped to the reels (iphone) and the perceived increase in smoothness of the Zillion registered as less noise on the graph.   No surprise to me as someone who owns both. My Shimanos are smooth and so are my non hyper drive Daiwas.  My hyper drive Daiwas are on another level smooth.  Smooth like turning the handle with the drag backed off smooth but the drag is locked and you are winding with a thumb driven hard onto the spool to press the pinion into the main gear to get as much gear mesh as possible but it just can't be felt.  Otherworldly smooth.  It makes you think there is something wrong with your drag kind of smooth.  The smoothness is great but it's the more well rounded braking profile that makes me prefer Daiwas over the centrifugal Shimanos since I do a lot of close quarters skipping mixed with distance casting with unconditioned stiff plastic lines with no spool tension.  Daiwas just work better for me here with smoothness being a niceness thing but not a performance thing.

I don't own any higher end Shimanos, but the two Tat 80's I have are noticeably smoother than the 3 Curados I picked up recently.  Everyone is giving the OP a hard time, but on the Tackle Tour forums, the Micro Module  gears get bashed routinely.

Hey, Rockhopper and ABU......I understand what Kingfisher is saying and how it may seem confusing to some.  Read closely;  no malice, sarcasm, or crystal ball involved.

This is literally trolling. We are all gonna get deleted by admin soon.

Well, I would hope not! As long as people are being civil, what's wrong with voicing different opinions?

And who doesn't have a soft spot for a Steve Erkle reference?!?  😁

It’s hard to imagine anything smoother than my 24 Tatula. Thing’s already buttery smooth.

Relax.  My post was not intended to offend anyone.  It wasn't even intended to state an opinion, about either manufacturer, or mine or any one else's personal opinion.  My post was a failed attempt at humor.  I was insinuating that I am a Diawa fan, but if someone would be kind enough to send me a free Shimano reel, I would instantly turn in to a Shimano fan.  I obviously didn't think someone would send me a free reel, and because I am an amateur angler, I would not ever expect to get a sponsorship from Shimano.  It was meant to be a joke.  I thought it was funny, but as all  jokes, I should have anticipated the fact that others may not appreciate my sense of humor.  I believe both manufactures make excellent reels and encourage discussions about the pluses and minuses of both.

Diawa may be the smoothest but if you want to impress the ladies you better go with Shimano. 😆
