Stairs

Featured Replies

Although I always opt for stairs if they are near the elevator, I really don’t remember the last time I was in a building that had 4 flights.

Downtown Boston in high rise. Elevator all the time. Otherwise stairs, up to 6. Really depends on how impatient I get with the elevator or foot traffic

Country boy. No more than two or three stories round here, and zero elevators.

Wait, I take that back. There's an elevator in the courthouse, but the cops haven't dragged me into it since I quit drinking 15 years ago, so... I always take the stairs. 😂

Since my last back surgery there are still limits of what I can do or not.
My limit is 10-15 stairs before I have to stop for a second or 2 and start again.

The higher I go the longer the pause.

I do everything I can to stay away from buildings that require elevators, like going to town. Usually when I encounter elevators, I'm traveling with the wife and she isn't climbing stairs and her safety is my responsibility so I ride. Sadly my answer is 1.

Since my back injury and related nerve damage in my legs, 10 years ago, if there is an elevator, I taking it instead of the stairs. I even moved from a two story to a single story house mainly to avoid stairs.

When I'm alone (not with Lynn) taking the stairs is fun and a rewarding challenge.

Especially since I prepare for it several times a week.

It helps if I'm the only one on them.

Otherwise I'm probably running over people.

Btw, bolting up an escalator is fun too.

Especially when they’re traveling in the opposite direction. Always fun childhood activity when I really didn’t want to go Xmas shopping with my mother and sister and had no other options

haha

Just depends how I’m feeling. I would rather take the stairs but a lot of the time the arthritis in my back, both hips, both knees and an ankle change my mind for me.

2-3 flights unless the elevator is taking a while then I might do more. Going down?  4-5 flights.

@A-Jay you joke about escalators but when I flew to Wisconsin to pick up our youngest dog I had to go through Chicago. There was one outbound to Madison that day and I had to catch it. We were late getting to the gate and I had 20 minutes from when the doors opened until they were shutting on the next flight. Of course I had to cross the entire airport from terminal A to F I think which means going down 150’ elevation on one escalator and up that again on the other side with a runway width of moving walkways between. I ran the whole thing including up the second escalator until about the last 10-15 yards when I was gassed. Made the flight though. Not recommended.

I am very familiar with ORD Airport - pass through it every time on my trips south.

Far better than DTW (Detroit)

I use to scale 244 steps most every day  up a hill here in town, for exercise. I had to quit because of my knees.

I live in a 3 story condo with parking underneath so I always take the elevator to the third floor unless it’s broken. Just lazy I guess because the stairs are not an obstruction for me.

It depends on how disheveled I can appropriately be when I reach the top. If I can be sweating like a pig I don't mind a good workout. If I'm wearing something with a collar I am taking the elevator for a single floor

I'm more inclined to take the stairs going down than up.

4 flights is kind of where I draw the line but I aint waiting very long for the elevator regardless.

4 flights for me.

My answer is one unless the elevator is taking a while

This year at work, I've led four projects to modernize old elevators.  I'm taking the stairs no matter how high.

Couple flights probably. Funny thing though, when I go to the orthopedic surgeons office, I try not to take the elevator to the second floor. I gotta be one of those “idiots” that takes the stairs a week after knee replacement. It only took about 20 mins to get upstairs :))

I take the elevator if I am carrying stuff.  luggage, boxes.

if I am free handing it.  I go stairs.  no limits.   under 4 stories, it is double time.

oh, if the stairwell smells like tick...elevator.  hahah...I was in Canada last year...wooooff.

Six or seven, unless 'boss lady' is with me.

There was one occasion at work we had to go to the 11th floor in full gear.  It was the biggest test of my cardio during my career.
