when the fishing isn't ideal, are you listening to anything? music?

I’m in the no music camp. I’ll rather listen to nature and hearing fish that jump to the surface.

I’m a huge music lover, but usually reserve it for other activities.

No, nothing. I get out on the water specifically to escape from everything. While I emerse my mind, body & spirit totally into whatever that day brings. If you're going to listen to ANYTHING ELSE

No music... Just nature and talking to myself...

I just listen to nature and the voices in my head telling me I should be fishing over there. 😁

I’m listening to myself grumble and occasionally curse.

I am always jamming to something. Hell you might get a full on concert from me. Anywhere from Loretta Lynn, air supply, August burns red, capture the crown, soja, dirty heads, ozzy, Metallica, T.I., Lil Wayne, you will never know what’s next.

😂love that

No music for me either, and when I'm not fishing alone I'm far from a conversationalist. When my dad was alive we would talk college football, then go hours without saying a word. I "fired" a fishing partner for being too loud.

I don’t play music while fishing. I try to pay attention to what’s going on around me that can clue me in to what the fish are doing that day. Music would just be a distraction for me.

For me it depends. I’ve always been a no music type while fishing and just listen to nature, but a couple years ago my buddy put a waterproof Bluetooth speaker in a white elephant just for me so I started carrying it in the kayak and now in the boat. I maybe use it 1/3 of the time on the water. If I’m fishing an urban type lake with lots of traffic around, if I’m on a party lake with powerboats running around, or if I’m on a lake house lake with people already playing music then I’ll put something on. Generally I’m not fishing in those circumstances though. So most of the time I am in the quiet listening to the world around me.

If you're going to listen to ANYTHING ELSE please wear ear buds. Not doing so is IMO, blatantly selfish.

Sound carries a looooooong way over open water.

This. All of it.

I do get various earworms, though. When it is time to move, The Who's 'Goin' Mobile' gets in my head. War's 'Flipping into Darkness' pops in sometimes around brushpiles. All too often I hear Alvin Lee singing 'but I don't know what to do...'. Today, I heard Elvis Costello singing 'Accidents Will Happen', "There's so many fish in the tree"...lol. (Caught at least six out of one laydown)

Depends on the music, but usually no. I went drum fishing with my buddy at cape point, and we took the ferry out to Ocrakoke island, 70 minute ride nowadays, and we get out there and one of his friends puts on the the first track of life after death by biggie smalls, cringe. I used to listen to that garbage and then I grew up. This man did go out on a charter recently and they landed a 700+ lb tuna, so he loves fishing at least, but not sure he could catch bass regularly

I listen to the music of nature. The singing of birds, the rhythm of the waves and current, the rustle of leaves and branches in the wind. What more could I need?

I'm always listening to cues from the fish and nature that might tip me off to a potential fish catching opportunity.

100%

I am always wearing ear buds and would never play music in the boat while fishing. I have a pair of After Shock headphones that I wear while biking that allows you to hear background noise.

No music, just the sounds around me.

When fishing isn’t ideal, music is the last thing I would listen to. I’m not out there to relax and chill out to tunes. I keep fishing just as hard through the lows as with highs, like riding a wave. They gonna hit soon, I keep saying. Keep on moving, change up tactics, get busy fishin or get busy getting skunked lol

Went fishing with a guy back in the early 70's who was a NASCAR fanatic.

All I heard was the radio screaming and him screaming when Cale Yarborough won.......he was a Petty fan 😁

That did it !

I won't fish with anyone who isn't a fan of silence.

I love music and I love fishing so I keep them separate and pay them each their due respect. I’m not saying I wouldn’t wet a line with someone who insisted on having the radio playing in their boat - but for me personally, when you’re in my boat - we fishin’.

We can listen to music in the car on the way to and from the lake - but on the lake I want to bask in the stillness and bathe in the sounds of nature.

I listen to music or an audio book, but I always wear headphones. The headphone company I prefer has a mode that gives you the ability to hear what is going on around you and still listen to "media".

I occasinally will listen to the Cardinals. Most of the time silence.

I keep a small bluetooth speaker in my boat. I listen to it when I'm fishing alone and the fish aren't biting.

I love music. Every now and then I consider bringing a small speaker and listen to music quietly. I often think about what @A-Jay said about how sound travels on the water and reconsider.

A buddy of mine recently gifted me about 500 audio books. I now split my time between music and audio books. I don't think I could wear head phones on the water, I feel I would miss too much. As far as listening to audio books while I am fishing. I don't think I would pay enough attention to the book for it to be worthwhile.

I do realize this isn't exactly in the music category.

However for those of us who live & fish in the more northern areas,

where the leaves hit the ground annually.

How fun is it to listen to EVERY property owner surrounding every lake we fish,

BLOWING LEAVES ALL DAY.

I love that ! #not

I get it, but man, it totally kills what would otherwise be such a gorgeous and serene setting.

Someone needs to get these folks some headlamps.
