The MBR844C is my favorite, but the 842 is a great stick, too. My 842 is my dedicated swimbait

rod (Rage Tail Swimmer) and for the Menace.. I recommend this rod over the 843 to compliment

your line-up.

Thanks! I'll look into the 842, I need a decent 2-power casting rod for exactly that sort of stuff, small weighed swimbaits, shaky heads, etc. That way I'll probably still go with an 853 JWR to replace my old MossyBack, use that for t-rigs instead of the 843.

 

Haven't caught a fish on it yet, but loved the 844 for 1/2oz jigs and swing jigs. The only fish of the trip came on a drop shot. That MBR action is sweet though!

That is a Daiwa Fuego.  Platform is close to the vaunted TD-Z.  It has a magnesium frame. I prefer the Alphas platform myself, but the Fuego is a good reel.

Def a Pinnacle.  Not sure of the model though.

At the beginning of this year, I was watching some Gerald Swindle videos talking about how 20 rods/reels on a boat deck rigged to fish from 1 ft to 99 ft was not the sign of a good angler. It was a sign of confusion.

 

So I pulled out all my gear and laid it all out. What I found was 18 rod/reel combos that I could not even begin to make sense of what they were all for or why I even had that many. I realized Swindle was right; I was a confused angler.

 

My product brands included just about every rod/reel manufacturer found on the Tackle Warehouse Manufacturer page. It was a mess.

 

After months and months of testing and really thinking about how to simplify my fishing and make sense of the gear I needed; I settled on 10 rod/reel setups.

 

Rods: I settled on 5 Falcon Experts and 5 Poison Adrenas

Reels: I settled on 5 Metanium (2020 models) and 5 Lews SLP variant reels (3 Hyper Mags and 2 Custom Lites)

 

I have to say, I hated seeing a lot of my gear go to Swap & Sells, but my fishing has been so much more enjoyable and simple to figure out how to attack a given day. It's so much easier to know that if I need a long casting or finesse setup, I reach to the left side of my deck and grab a Metanium. And if I need a pitching, skipping, flipping, etc. setup, I reach to the right and grab a Lews.

 

And now for some showing off. Here's a little pic I took today of a good many of my combos laying on deck. I hope I don't get banned but that is a Lews on an Adrena lol. It's probably my favorite setup at the moment.

The IMX-Pro 852 JWR is a very versatile rod. It's the best shaky head, underspin (belly weighted hook style), light t rig/jig rod I have ever used. Highly recommend it.

I have it in spinning, love that thing. I'm really sold on the MBR action since getting the 844, that's why I'm thinking of getting the 842 in casting instead of the 852. Might get the 853 too for t-rigs though.

I have the 842 MBR too. It's not as versatile as the 852 JWR. I don't think the 842 has a fast enough tip for hook sets with jigs, and t-rigs. It is a great rod for all light moving baits though.

My idea was that I'd have a rod that did OK with finesse jigs and t-rigs and I could also throw - say - a DT4 or DT6 in a pinch if I'm fishing from the bank instead of from the canoe or the terrible little fiberglass boat we rent sometimes (also known as the USNS Discomfort) where we can carry more rods and have something better for treble hooked baits. The full IMX-Pro lineup would be 812C JBR, 842C MBR, 852S JWR, 853C JWR, and the 844C MBR. For crankbaits I still have my old 783 and 785 CBRs for crankbaits, the 785 being that old green GLX model - maybe late next year I'll replace those with the 7 foot models as well.

I don't have a steez rod but I'm a fan of the exist LT.  Light and smooth. I almost like it more than my stellas.

I used my Curado 70 K my last three trips. It’s one of the easiest casting reels I’ve ever used. I have zero issues with it, it does everything well. It looks and feels right at home on my Loomis 852 JWR. It’s a perfect combo with 20lb 832 loaded on the reel. IMHO it’s a beautiful looking reel.

It just cannot be overstated how great the IMX-PRO looks with a Curado on it, especially that 70 MGL. The shaped full cork grip, the simple green on black guide wrap... I honestly think it's the best looking Loomis rod since the old green GLX. I love my NRX but that green on blue wrapping looks weird. It may be the best rod on the market but it's surely not the best looking one.
