Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

It is but it's not as sloppy as it looks.  I think it's watermeal.  Usually with a little bit of wind it's all in the corner of the pond I'm standing at in that pic but last night there was no breeze so it was spread out more.  It looks like more of a hassle than it is although it sure is annoying to have it all over your hands.  Effects top water baits a little bit but is perfect for frogs.  Easy to get baits through it though and run right underneath it.

For a moment last night things were looking good for my buddy and me, but then the bucket brigade showed up with surf casting gear. There's always the other side of the lake, but that provided zero relief as these fools were wearing headlamps so bright that they could've signaled Alpha Centauri. Oh, and they never turned them off. Seems that they were shining them on their bobbers, and they totally lit up our side with the huge beams of light. We were opposite from them, so my buddy quit because he was getting a headache from the never ending flashes each time these guys moved even a fraction of an inch. There was nowhere to hide. He lost a few, but I got out with a scrappy rat fish for @A-Jay before I quit too. I'm dreaming about countermeasures for next time...

Cold front effects are over, as water temps here back up around 85 degrees. Spent a little over 4 hours on a local reservoir chasing bass, mostly with  jigs. Managed 18 total. Lost the best fish of the day when it jumped and threw my jig - probably between 4 and 5 pounds. Was talking to a catfish angler who pulled up and anchored within half a cast of me when he hit. That's what I get for not paying better attention. Did get a couple other nice bass though, and they came cranking a DT10, both off the same point.

Nothing special really just two small fish, but at least I caught something again with only a hour of time to fish. I use to get skunked here all the time now I catch fish like these, that’s a improvement.

Had storms supposed to be moving in today (never did), but it rained on me pretty good off and on this morning. I was hoping that would have the fish biting pretty well and they were pretty cooperative. Minus that stupid 6th Sense Vega frog (0-6 this morning which has me at about 1-20 hookups to bites ratio on it), that might as well not have hooks on it, I caught a fish on every rod I brought. Threw the Bull Wake quite a bit, because they were biting it ?

What kind of rod and reel set up do you use for the Bull Wake?

Thanks to @roadwarrior for letting me tag along with him yesterday. I always feel like I learn something, and have a great time when I get to fish with him. The bite was slow in the heat, but we both managed to land a few. Mostly small, but a couple decent ones.

This one was one of those times when you see a perfect spot that requires a perfect cast, and you have one shot at it. I won't hit a spot like that on the first cast every time, but this time I dropped a rage swimmer right in its face. It was a jumper so it was a really fun fight.

I have a few days off from work, so today 6poundbass and one of his friends were out with me. We made it about 1.5 hours before the boredom set in with them. I managed two, one on a swim jig and this one pitching a 1oz tungsten weight with a Rage Craw to isolated reeds. 6poundbass got his on a swimbait.

The Summer of Sub-3 continues lol. Wanted to fish the past three evenings but it’s been storm after storm. Water is high from the rain. Calling for storms this afternoon/evening as well, so I hit the pond this morning.

Started out with a jerkbait, followed by a spinnerbait with a Rage Menace trailer. Nothing. Switched to a Mann’s Jelly Worm and lost one, then caught this bass.

spacer.png

Also started working a weightless TR with a Zoom Mag II. This bass liked it. The only one that did!

spacer.png

Tried a squarebill and a lipless. Also zilch. Got nothing on a WR, so I started casting a weightless TR with a Daiwa/GYBC Neko Macho. That fared better. Lost one and caught two.

This year has been way tougher than 2020 (as far as fishing is concerned lol). It’s been a long time since I went ofer on a Senko wacky rig. It’s a tough bite since early May.

Since the fishing is slow brother, you should just start swinging for the fences and start throwing a frog in the muck. Never know what might hit; one cast could redeem the whole summer. ?

I’d take that for action. Except...there’s really no “muck” to throw a frog into. This pond gets duckweed and algae, but not bad. No lily pads, no big weed beds that extend out feet from shore. It’s really pretty clear. Most of the action has always been casting under or near tree limbs that overhang the water, or parallel to the bank about 10’-12’ out. It was very productive all last year except for most of September, and all this year until mid-May. I caught my 5+ lb bass (5.12 lbs) in March and the last one over 3 lbs (3.64 lbs) on May 4, and since then it’s been nothing but dinks up to 2 lbs.

It was a tough day of fishing, but I kept the skunk away from me with this 1 pound Bass! This was the only bite and the only fish of the day. It was on a Roboworm hooked on a 1/0 drop shot hook and a tiny bullet weight.

Lots of rain means easy pickins in front of storm drains. Caught a couple dozen including this biggest in under an hour.

Was in a local fishing tournament today, bank fishing only. My first ever. And likely my last. Actually at the lake I caught my first LMB in when I was 4 or 5 years old. It was like 4 or 5 inches. Haven’t fished there since I was 5 or 6 years old. We did no scouting or prefishing. Because life. Too many other things to do. We did OK with 7 fish between us. All dinks. Only one of each of our fish made the 10” minimum size limit. I was #23 out of 58. I think my son was 2nd for the kids, because he was only a half inch behind the winner. My bag was 39 inches, counting the shorts. My son’s was 30. It was a terrible 92 degree day, with horrible, oppressive air quality. This was the only time I was ever happy it started to rain during the last two and a half hours. We did OK considering we had no real game plan, except me looking at google maps.

Got out and tried the Free Rig today after watching @Glenn’s video. Caught 4 on it with the one below being the best of the lot. I found it hard to detect the bite but it may have been because they were cruising and picking it up on the fall. My only clue came from line movement.  Caught a total of 6 but only one was picture worthy.

First time out from the new house.   Been so busy since moving in a couple weeks ago.  I think I'm going to like this lake.

What the hell is this? I thought it was a spot at first until looking at the pictures where it seems awful dark and the eye really stands out. Could it be a red eye? I caught  it on Chickamauga, a vagrant doesn't seem completely implausible to be in there.

If it doesn’t stop raining soon I am going to build an ark.

I bank fished this morning in the pouring rain on my local stretch of river. I was throwing a Rapala Original Floating Minnow F07 in Perch color. Abu Garcia Max Z 20 reel 8# mono on a Lew’s TP1X ML 6’9” finesse rod.

I caught 6 Smallies and a couple of Sunfish before calling it a day.
