I’m going to set up my rod for frog fishing. Simple question is what lb line should I use and what kind? Thanks for your advice. Have a blessed day

I use 50lb Power Pro or Sufix 832 braid. A lot of people use 65lb braid for frogs, but I’ve never felt the need to step up from 50lb. 

Any decent braid will work, I like 50 and 65.

I also use 50lb power pro. I used 65 for years but have found 50 to be plenty and it casts better.

Whatever braid you choose don’t use leader!

50# Sufix 832 on my Frog Rod - never a leader.

I’m not picky with my braid. 50# is perfect for me, you can do 65# if you’ve already got it on hand. I’ve used 50# original power pro, 50# j-braid in the 4 carrier and 8 carrier. 

Depends on the type of Lilly pads...as light as 40#, 4 carrier, up to 80# 8 carrier. 

 

I find a 4 carrier will cut through some of the lighter pads and the 8 carrier smoothly go through the pads. Try a few straight braid setups and see what's best for you.

Don't overthink it. 50# Power Pro or 832 works perfectly.

I fish them with a short 50 lb mono leader cause snakeheads...

Just my experience also, but to add a different pov sense you will never get full strength out of braid before it digs in and potentially snaps, if you want to crank down your drag and reel the fish in, 50lb might dig into the spool and snap, and 65lb will be more manageable. I don't see this being an issue with bass, but just food for thought if you go for any larger sw game fish.

 

Happened last year in SW, I think it was a ray or shark orsomething, but the 50lb braid when putting 30ish pounds of force on the fish with a penn international the braid dug in and cut at the spool even with the braid tightly wound.

I usually use 40 or 50 pound PP for frogs and other lures on top of vegetation. 

 

BUT I rigged up a rod for swim baits and tried some 65 pound PP Maxcuatro. I'm not sold on the Maxcuatro for swimbaits because of the small diameter but I have used that rod and line to fish frogs and the combo has worked well.

Me too - that's mostly why I have 80# braid

50# 832 for me. 

50 lb Daiwa J - Braid for my frogs

10# mono. you all are a big group of sally's. 

Whatever 50lb braid that floats. 

50lb Power pro. NEVER a leader.

Thats interesting. A lot of guys around here including myself fish for snakeheads with straight braid and never seem to have a problem. I assume you've experienced one too many lost lures? lol

One of the guys on youtube I enjoy is NDYakangler. If I recall correctly he uses a 50lb Fluoro leader when he fishes for musky and pike. must be something to it.
