Susky River Rat Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Yesterday I picked up my 2024 G3 18’ CCJ tunnel dlx. Yamaha 115/80 jet. I have a bow and console mount 9” Garmin striker vivid. I am not super fancy with electronics nor do I fish big water that is mapped. I am however waiting on the key piece. My 115 terrova quest. I am borrowing an old terrova right now from the shop I got it from. I did my two slower hours of break in today. Didn’t really fish much. I must say this boat gets on plane quick. Super stable while fishing and on plane. It does carve turns well. You just have to be ready for the typical jet slide. I can’t wait to get it out on the river and see it preform where it’s intended. 16 1 Quote

airshot Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Just curuous here, never owned a jet drive, know very little about them. If the pickup doesn't pickup enough water can or will it burn up that high pressure pump ?? In my mind, not feeding the pump enough water would be a concern.....very cool boat by the way !!! Does a jet drive give the same mph as a prop driven motor ?? Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted October 31, 2023 Super User Posted October 31, 2023 Great looking rig…and dog! 1 Quote
Born 2 fish Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 That’s awesome congratulations on the new boat. 1 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted November 1, 2023 Author Posted November 1, 2023 @airshot so a jet drive are direct drive. There is no gear box it is forcing water into the impeller for cooling. As far as MPH a tunnel will run slightly slower than a none tunnel jet. The benefit of the tunnel is the jet intake will not hit the hull will take a brunt of the hit. Jets lose about a 20% from s prop motor. So a 115/80 like I have is a 115 outboard if it had a prop on it but, at the jet nozzle it is only 80. A 60/40 is a 60 HP prop motor but, with a jet it’s 40HP. I hope this answers your questions. 2 Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 1, 2023 Super User Posted November 1, 2023 What is jet slide? 1 Quote

Susky River Rat Posted November 1, 2023 Author Posted November 1, 2023 @Darth-Baiter driving them is almost like dirt track racing or Mario cart. You basically power slide them and counter steer. Depending on the situation you will manipulate the throttle. You really need to set up turns in a jet. When I go through really rocky areas and shallow areas I already have my line picked. @TnRiver46 most guys with jets go into the trailers hot. 7-10mph than Chop the throttle once the bow gets to the bunks. 1 Quote
GRiver Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 HOT DANG!!! A NEW BOAT!!! How many times have ya went out in the driveway just to look at it? Congratulations 2 2 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 1, 2023 Super User Posted November 1, 2023 Beautiful boat and I'm a big fan of that center console set up. Are you gonna get any UHMW on the bottom? When I move from the kayak world a jet will be my choice. 1 Quote

Congratulations I slept in mine the first night I had it. No joke. My wife thought I was borderline crazy. That got old after one night though, went back to the bed the next night lol 2 3 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted November 1, 2023 Author Posted November 1, 2023 @GRiver I open my garage door about 20 times a day lol @flyfisher I am not. It adds a lot of weight. Its expensive. It’s either screwed or glued to the bottom which each of those have their own issues. If you do damage the UHMW it needs replaced there is no real fix to it. @gimruis haha that’s borderline crazy. Super User casts_by_fly Posted November 1, 2023 Super User Posted November 1, 2023 Congrats! That's a pretty slick rig. Glad you managed to get it before the water got hard so you could get the break in done. Next spring you'll be ready to roll. Will this one draw about the same draft as your old one so you'll pick the same lines and run in the same river levels? 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 Congratulations on the new rig! I love jet outboards. 1 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted November 1, 2023 Author Posted November 1, 2023 @casts_by_fly thanks buddy. The draft should be comparable. The handling is much better. The biggest reasons I chose this was the forward center console and the tunnel. The vision I have and knowing my intake isn’t going to take the brunt of the hit are great piece of mind. The top end speed of my old boat vs this one is only about 5-7mph difference. What I did gain with the motor is getting up on plane in a couple boat lengths vs 20 yards. I can easily cruise at 25mph which is a good speed on the river in most situations. This gives me plenty of throttle to power out of situations @volzfan59 they do have a time and purpose and when you need them they are invaluable. 1 Quote
