I had a friend many years ago who told me, You have what I need. It took me years to really grasp that statement.  Tommy had what we need.  What he gave us is priceless.  He was a pay it forward person.  I wish I could have sat across from him in a cafe and shared some Community Coffee.  I wouldn’t have brought fishing up.  I for one will miss Tommy.

Is there a donation set up for Tommy and his family?

Tom

I don’t see an option for a donation but here you/we can leave a note or story for the family.

Uh,  What!   NO!!!   Such sadness.  Prayers to him and his family.  I've chatted with him on these boards for 20 years roughly.  He will be greatly missed.

Well hell, when I want to hear from Catt, I’m gonna just start at the beginning of the Toledo Bend thread..

Sure enough.

Might could even fish (and whistle) with John Prine. Hopefully I can one day

I saw this thread a few days ago and I have been at a loss for words.  Catt, as well as a few other members of BR, personifies what Bass Resource is.  For him to be gone is a huge loss.  If I am not mistaken I think it was just April when he first found out that he had an issue.

Rest in peace, friend.  Best hopes and wishes to Tommy's family.

I missed this! I am so sorry to hear. @Catt will

indeed be missed. May he rest in the heavenly

bayous and fish eternity to his glorious content.

I fisherman "falls asleep" (dies).  He's on a beautiful lake, in a bass boat, an array of rods on the deck.  He picks up a rod and makes a cast,  fish on, 2 pounder...  He picks up another rod with a different lure, fish on, two pounder.  And so on, and so on, all day long, a two pounder on every cast, no matter the lure.  After hundreds of two pounders, day after day (and he is not tired at all), another bass boat comes into view and comes up on him. "How's the fishing?"  "Great, I've caught thousands of two pounders in the last week, a two pound bass on every cast."   The first fellow says the second fellow, "I know I shouldn't complain but, seeing this is heaven and all, shouldn't there be bigger fish than two pounders?  Shouldn't there be some real monsters in this lake?"  The second man says, "who said it was heaven?"

I will miss him.

My condolences go to his family and to all us here. I’m completely at a loss.

Was moving into my new house and celebrated my 13th wedding anniversary on the day of his passing and totally missed it.  At a loss.  Heartbroken.

@Catt buddy, I’m gonna miss you but I know we will meet again someday.

save me some big game and 10” worms up there and don’t go too hard on those heavenly 10 lbers I’m sure you’re catching.

Catt was someone I really took to early on and I know I wouldn’t have caught the fish I caught without him specifically.  He was a demystifier and a teacher and he always emphasized the importance of answering your own questions.

I haven’t thrown a jig or worm or frog or lipless without hearing some of his words in the back of my mind and I often use the search function to learn something and Catt is almost always the information from way back when that settles in and sticks.

He loved this place and he loved fishing and we all loved him.

See ya later Tommy.

Thanks for asking, bud. I definitely don't want this thread turning into anything about me, but I'm hanging in there. Haven't been able to fish for the past 2 1/2 month. Chemo side effects just make it too hard. So it's been rough not being able to get out.

The chemo had stopped/slowed the cancer as of now. But they'll be taking me off one of the chemo meds now going forward. So I hope the side effects subside some where I'll feel like doing stuff again. And once that stops working then they'll go from there as to what they wanna try.

As you may remember, when I was diagnosed back in January they gave me about a year. But with the most recent scans and the way it's looking, they say it will likely be longer now, they just don't know how much longer. My breathing can get pretty labored if I overdo it too much. But then there's days it's not as bad.

Thankfully I have a great support group...and I really am at peace with it. I've lived 50 years, so not too bad. To me the real sad stories are seeing these children with cancer. That's just not fair.

But thanks again for asking.

@MN Fisher I've been thinking of you too my friend. I hope things are as good as they can be for you in these times. 🙏

Finished my chemo-run about 5 weeks ago, went through one round of immuno-therapy so far...that'll go on for a year.

Brain spot disappeared, so nothing more for that. Adrenal spots are so small as to be irrelevant, Doc says the immuno-therapy might take care of them. Lung area has reduced by almost 60% and next week I go in for ten days (5, break for the weekend, 5 more) of targeted radiation. Then another CT/PET scan to see how that worked.

My hemoglobin dropped to 6.9 one time, got a whole-blood transfusion...then a few weeks later it was 7.0, so a second transfusion. Breathing seems to be slowly getting better, I'm not getting as winded just walking around. After almost 2 months, went shore fishing yesterday....taking the two eldest (not-legally adopted) grand-daughters with me...and of course the only fish caught was by the eldest - just my luck.

Hope things get better for you, man. Keeping you in my thoughts...as well as Dwight. Us 'invaded' guys gotta stick together.
