I usually go with 8-10 rods rigged in the boat. 7 or 8 casting rods and 1 or 2 spinning rigs. Very early or very late in the season that number may be less. 

My rod locker holds 15. I’ve always said if I end up with more rods than that, I’m overthinking it. Therefore, I have 16 now…

Kayak holds up to 10, usually have 7-8. Not sure how many the boat holds, I'd guess around 3 dozen and it's usually full. Tend to have 10-15 on the deck. I'm a junk fisherman through and through. 

It really depends, I am just as likely to go out with one rod as I am to load up the locker.

The Old Town canoe holds 9 -

5 casting 4 spinners

 

 

The Pro-V Bass has rod 15 tubes in the center rod locker.

But I would often "double up' several and could easily get 20-25 rigs in there.

And as if that wasn't enough, last spring I got a wild hair across my Azz

and removed the rod tube contraption completely.

Now the space is cavernous and I actually have more room than I have rods.

Which is saying something.

Might have to address that deal.

Either way, removing sticks 'at the bottom' is much easier now.

We need to consider, however, that A-Jay is an unreformed bank robber who has been doing quite well in the past few years, and most of us don't have the resources to match him.  I can only afford to take about 10 in the boat.  :-)

 

A-Jay, are those a couple Calcutta 100's in there?  My first really modern casting reel.  I bought one for me and one for my son.

What mostly happened was I salted away all the 'gas money'

I never had to use fishing from a canoe for 10 years  #paddlepower

And the round reels are 200D's and are easily one of my favorites.

I make excuses to fish them as much as I can.

I'd say in my kayak I average 5, 3 casting 2 spinning. Sometimes it reaches 8 if I really think there's that much in play. Sometimes it'll be 3 if I have really got it honed in or it is a specific situation, like a smallmouth float. I try to stay to 2-3 when co-anglering or in a friend's boat.

This is usually me. Then if I find a pattern I may only use 3 rods are so most of the day. But I love catching bass on all different techniques. I'm usually on the water for 10-12 hours, so there's plenty of time to try different things, especially if something stops working. 

 

I'll also have multiple rods set up with same style baits. Meaning a lot of times I'll have 2 swim jigs ready to go. One on 16 lb fluoro and one on straight braid.  

 

 

 

 

All of my rods are ready to go when I am.  Most of the time I will only take 3 baitcasters and 1 or 2 spinning.  A lot of it depends on what type of structure and cover I will be fishing.

For decades when I had a bass boat carried 15 combos.

My 14’ Lund tin boat carried 6 combos, 3 on each side.

Today without a boat back seating carry 2 bait casting and 3 spinning and 1 tackle bag.

If I'm riding along with someone else I try to limit my number of rods to 6. Fishing out of my ride, I generally have 15-20 in the boat and vary the amount on the deck, but probably average 6-10.

I usually have 6 or 7 on the deck of my 1448 Jon boat.

I didn't even consider putting in tubes when I rebuilt the F-9.  12 rigs last year and the locker was only 1/2 full.

After reading all these replies I would like to plead the 5th on this one. Like 2 or 3 years ago I gave away 13 rods to the local Jr Bassmasters that I was not using.

 

As for rods in tackle I noticed that I was bringing more stuff in my Bass Tracker which was a problem. Solved the problem by buying a bigger boat.

I did this with my Stratos almost immediately. It went from being able to hold 15 and a 7.5' rod being a struggle, to easily fitting double the amount and 8' swimbait rods fitting with ease. Really happy with the decision to remove it.

The other 3 change depending on season & body of water.

If I'm hiking, 2. If I'm in the tube 3-4. If I'm in the kayak 4-6. If I'm in the boat 10-12. 

After selling 15 combo's and giving away another 6, I'm down to 12. I built in 6 rod tubes in my jon to bass boat, so 6 is what I carry as a rule. Sometimes I carry a couple on the deck if needed.

Depends on the when and where.
