I need to make some trips up there with the canoe so I can experience some brown bass action!! You won't regret it. I love catching smallies more than largemouth, they're just so much more difficult to find (for me at least. @A-Jay might say differently).
Susky River Rat
I have never fished a big water. Only 2,000 acres and under. My river is long but, not something like the st Lawerence.

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 19, 2023 Global Moderator Share Posted December 19, 2023 I've caught a bunch of doubles, but never caught 2 bass at once on an A-rig. Now that 5 baits are legal in KS, I figure it's just a matter of time.
Super User Swamp Girl Posted December 19, 2023 Author Super User Share Posted December 19, 2023 I have never cast an A-rig. I own a couple and one waited on deck, a space in my garage when I stage lures about to go to bat, but I kept pulling it back into the bullpen, afraid of casting such a heavy lure. And then think of them and fish them that way. #likeajig. Meaning ONLY move the bait with the ROD, not the reel. You'll be glad you did. My work is done here. The Baron
I've never placed lower than top 10 in a bass tournament. I've never entered a bass tournament. I've never caught a fish on a Carolina rig (have fished with them a bit, plan to try more next year)

The A-rig here can't have more than one hook though, the rest have to be fakes. So really there is no advantage to using it over any other lure. I have caught all of my fish on the center wired bait. No doubles, no outer wires and no multiple hook-ups ever. I catch them late fall into early spring, in cooler water only.

All my bigger jerkbaits like (pointer 100 and up) I'm throwing on casting gear and I can't imagine not having a DC reel. I'll bomb cast them straight into the wind with zero hesitation... the noise is a little annoying at first. But wow what a difference a DC reel makes on a jerkbait rod. Completely thumb free!! I cast all my jerkbaits on a casting reel. I rarely use spinning gear

Pat Brown
For the folks that can't catch a fish on a jig: go to a small pond this spring during a warm front and fish when a light warm drizzle starts, preferably with a gentle SW air flow that's been rolling for a couple days. Put a 3/8 oz green pumpkin jig with a green pumpkin rage menace on your line, dip the very *tips* of the flappers in chartreuse and cast it into the in flow ditch around some wood or rock preferably. Now here's the hard part. Get your phone out and read bass resource for 30 minutes. Every 2-3 minutes sloooooowly edge that jig an inch or two. I'll eat my hat if you don't catch a 3+ lber doing that.

Super User Team9nine Posted January 3 Super User Share Posted January 3 Despite throwing it several trips this winter now that I’ve moved, thinking things might be different, I still have NEVER caught a single bass on an underspin in 40 years of fishing - not even on the original underspin, the Roadrunner 😆

I used to catch white bass two at a time on hair jigs joined by a three-way swivel on the Mississippi and Wolf River, and I've jigged up hundreds (thousands?) of walleyes, but no LMBs yet.
