It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Gary Kilmartin, aka @.ghoti. .  He joined the forums in 2005 and was a long-time moderator.  He was known for having rod-building skills, a great sense of humor, a love of cigars, and a generous heart.  Few also knew he was quite the skilled musician.  Many of you met him at various BassResource RoadTrips.

Gary will be lovingly remembered by his wife, children, and grandchildren, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him.

Gary touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his love of fishing and music, as well as his passion for teaching. He had a profound impact on all who knew him, and his legacy will live on in our hearts and memories.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 11/18, at:

McCracken-Dean Funeral Home

308 E 2nd Street

Pana, IL  62557

Flowers and donations in his honor may be sent there.  Prayers, condolences, and memories are gladly accepted by his family as well.

Please join us in celebrating the wonderful life of Gary and in saying farewell to a beloved friend, family member, and cherished individual.

Wow, that's terrible and way too young at 71. Always appreciated his sense of humor and creativity with the way he came up with his screen name. Definitely be missed. RIP brother and my thoughts and prayers will be with your family.

I’m one of the fortunate members who was surprised by a gift from Gary during the time he was making rods for veterans.  I’ve always pampered that rod; it’s the only high-end rod I’ve ever owned.  Just pulled it out to admire it before writing this … and it’s disheartening to know it can never be replaced.  Even more disheartening is the knowledge that the kind and generous soul who created it can never be replaced.  I never met Gary, but never fished without appreciating his generosity and his skill as a craftsman.  He will be missed, but not forgotten.

Rest in peace!

Thank you @.ghoti. for your thoughts and contributions which are going to be greatly missed as they made the Bass Resource community better. Just as the thought of your explanation of how you spelled “fish” brings a smile every time I would read a post of yours.

  Rest in peace Gary.

Being relatively new I never got the chance to post with Gary or get to know him, however he seems like a wonderful human as evidenced by all the members who knew him and replied.

Very nice eulogy Glenn and may the Bass in heaven always be biting for Gary!
